Allspice (ground)

Allspice is a dried berry from the Pimenta dioica tree, native to the Caribbean and Central America, with a flavour reminiscent of a blend of cinnamon, clove, and nutmeg. It is used whole or ground in both sweet baking and savoury spiced dishes, including jerk seasoning and mulled drinks. Despite the name, it comes from a single spice, not a mixture.

Grinding reduces an ingredient to a fine, even texture that generally packs more densely than a whole or crushed form.
