Basil (dried)
Basil is a fragrant herb with tender green leaves, widely used fresh in Italian, Mediterranean, and Southeast Asian cooking. It has a sweet, slightly peppery flavour that fades quickly with heat, so it is often added at the end of cooking or used raw in dishes like pesto, salads, and pasta sauces. Different varieties, such as Thai basil, have distinct flavour notes suited to particular cuisines.
Drying removes most of the water content, leaving a lighter, more concentrated product that weighs considerably less per cup than its fresh equivalent.
