Chana dal (uncooked)
Chana dal is split, hulled chickpeas, smaller and more rounded than whole chickpeas, with a mild, nutty flavour. It is used widely in Indian cooking, simmered into dals, ground into batters, or used in snacks and sweets. It cooks faster than whole chickpeas but still typically benefits from soaking beforehand.
Measured before cooking, while the ingredient hasn't yet absorbed water or changed texture.
