Chestnuts (cooked, peeled)
Chestnuts are large nuts encased in a spiky outer husk, with a starchy, mildly sweet flesh that is always cooked before eating, typically roasted or boiled. They are used whole in stuffings and side dishes, or puréed into soups, desserts, and fillings. Unlike most nuts, they are relatively low in fat and higher in starch, giving them a texture closer to a root vegetable when cooked.
Cooking typically changes an ingredient's water content and structure, so a cooked measurement is not interchangeable with the same ingredient raw.
