Coconut (shredded)

Coconut is the large fruit of the coconut palm, with a hard brown shell, white flesh, and a pocket of liquid inside. Its flesh is eaten fresh, dried into desiccated coconut or flakes, or pressed for milk, cream, and oil, contributing a rich, sweet, tropical flavour across many cuisines. Fresh coconut flesh has a firmer texture and more subtle sweetness than the dried, shredded forms typically sold for baking.

Shredding produces long, thin strips that trap more air than a fine grate, so shredded measurements are typically lighter per cup.
