Cranberries (dried)
Cranberries are small, tart red berries that grow on low vines in wet, marshy conditions, with a sharp, sour flavour when fresh. They are cooked into sauces, relishes, and baked goods, usually sweetened to balance their natural tartness, and are also dried for snacking or baking. Fresh cranberries are rarely eaten raw due to their intense tartness.
Drying removes most of the water content, leaving a lighter, more concentrated product that weighs considerably less per cup than its fresh equivalent.
