Edamame (shelled)

Edamame are young, immature soybeans, usually sold still in their pods, either fresh or frozen. They are boiled or steamed and lightly salted, eaten by squeezing the beans from the pod, or shelled and added to salads, rice dishes, and stir-fries. Their mild, slightly sweet flavour and firm texture distinguish them from fully mature dried soybeans.

Removing the shell leaves only the edible portion, which is denser and lighter overall than the unshelled form.
