Espresso (liquid)
Espresso is a concentrated coffee brewed by forcing hot water through finely-ground coffee under pressure, producing a small, strong shot with a layer of crema on top. It is drunk on its own or used as a base for other coffee drinks, and in baking it adds a deep coffee flavour that also intensifies chocolate flavours. A small amount goes a long way due to its concentration compared to regular brewed coffee.
As a free-flowing liquid, this ingredient fills a measuring cup with no trapped air pockets, so its weight is close to a straightforward density calculation.
