Flaxseeds (ground)

Flaxseeds are small, oval seeds with a nutty flavour, available in golden and brown varieties, eaten whole, ground, or pressed for oil. Whole seeds pass through digestion largely intact, so they are often ground to release their nutritional benefits before adding to baked goods, cereals, or smoothies. When mixed with water, ground flaxseed forms a gel that is sometimes used as an egg replacement in baking.

Grinding reduces an ingredient to a fine, even texture that generally packs more densely than a whole or crushed form.
