Garlic (whole cloves)
Garlic is a pungent bulb made up of individual cloves, used as a foundational aromatic in savoury cooking across nearly every cuisine in the world. It can be used raw for a sharp, spicy bite, or cooked to become sweet and mellow, with the intensity of its flavour changing significantly depending on how finely it is cut and how long it is cooked. Crushing or mincing garlic releases more of its pungent compounds than leaving cloves whole.
Whole cloves pack more loosely into a cup than a minced or crushed form of the same ingredient.
