Lard
Lard is rendered pork fat, prized in baking and cooking for producing especially flaky pastry and crisp fried foods. It has a mild flavour and a solid, spreadable texture at room temperature, similar to shortening but with a richer taste. It was a common baking fat before the widespread adoption of vegetable shortening and oils.
