Leek (finely sliced)

Leek is a mild, sweet member of the onion family with long, layered white and green stalks, used in soups, stews, and as a base aromatic in French cooking. It has a more delicate, less pungent flavour than onion and requires thorough rinsing between its layers, where dirt often becomes trapped during growing. Its texture softens into a silky consistency when slowly cooked.

Thin, fine slices pack more densely into a cup than thicker slices of the same ingredient.
