Light brown sugar (loosely packed)
Light brown sugar is granulated sugar combined with a smaller proportion of molasses than dark brown sugar, giving it a lighter colour and a milder caramel flavour. It is used in baking for moisture and flavour, and is typically measured by firmly packing it into a measuring cup. It can generally be substituted for dark brown sugar with only a subtle difference in flavour and colour.
Loosely packed means the ingredient is added to the cup without pressing it down, leaving air pockets that make it weigh less than the same amount firmly packed.
