Molasses

Molasses is a thick, dark syrup that is a byproduct of refining sugarcane or sugar beet juice into sugar, with a robust, slightly bitter, deep sweetness. It is used in baking, particularly in gingerbread and dark breads, as well as in barbecue sauces and glazes. Different grades, from light to blackstrap, vary considerably in intensity and bitterness.
