Oat bran
Oat bran is the outer, fibrous layer of the oat grain, separated during processing, with a mild, slightly nutty flavour and a coarser texture than rolled oats. It is cooked into a hot cereal, added to baked goods for extra fibre and texture, or sprinkled over other foods. Its coarse texture absorbs liquid readily, affecting the moisture balance in baked recipes.
