Oat groats (uncooked)
Oat groats are whole, unprocessed oat kernels with only the inedible outer hull removed, retaining their bran, germ, and endosperm intact. They have a chewy texture and take considerably longer to cook than rolled or steel-cut oats, since they have not been flattened or cut. They are used in porridges and grain salads for a heartier, chewier texture.
Measured before cooking, while the ingredient hasn't yet absorbed water or changed texture.
