Port (liquid)
Port is a fortified sweet wine from Portugal, typically dark red though white and tawny varieties also exist, with a rich, sweet, slightly boozy flavour. It is traditionally drunk after meals, but is also used in cooking for sauces, particularly with game meats and cheese, and in some desserts. Its sweetness and depth intensify as it reduces during cooking.
As a free-flowing liquid, this ingredient fills a measuring cup with no trapped air pockets, so its weight is close to a straightforward density calculation.
