Pretzels (crushed)

Pretzels are a baked, twisted bread product, traditionally given a distinctive brown, glossy crust and slightly alkaline flavour by being briefly boiled or dipped in a lye or baking soda solution before baking. They are eaten as a snack, either soft and chewy or hard and crunchy, often salted on the surface. Crushed pretzels are also used as a crunchy topping or coating in some recipes.

Crushing breaks an ingredient into irregular fragments, which can pack either more loosely or more densely than the whole form depending on fragment size.
