Salt (coarse)

Salt is a mineral seasoning, chemically sodium chloride, fundamental to nearly all savoury and much sweet cooking, used to enhance and balance flavours as well as preserve food. It comes in many forms, from fine table salt to coarse sea salt and specialty finishing salts, each with different crystal sizes affecting how much salt is delivered by volume. Its role goes beyond simple seasoning, also affecting texture in baking and the fermentation process in bread and pickles.
