Shallots (diced)
Shallots are a small, mild, sweet member of the onion family, with a more delicate flavour than regular onions and a subtle garlic undertone. They are used raw in dressings and salads, or cooked gently to form the base of sauces without the sharpness of larger onions. Their smaller size and layered structure make them quicker to caramelise than onions.
Dicing cuts an ingredient into small, even cubes, which pack differently into a cup than slices or larger chopped pieces.
