Water
Water is used in cooking and baking as a neutral liquid for hydrating doughs, dissolving ingredients, and as a cooking medium for boiling, steaming, and poaching. Its temperature and mineral content can subtly affect outcomes in some recipes, such as bread dough fermentation and tea or coffee extraction. It provides no flavour of its own but is essential for activating and combining other ingredients.
