Wild rice (uncooked)
Wild rice is not a true rice but the seed of an aquatic grass, with a dark, elongated grain, chewy texture, and a distinctive earthy, slightly smoky, nutty flavour. It is used as a side dish or mixed with other rice varieties, and takes considerably longer to cook than white rice due to its tough outer layer. Its grains split open slightly when fully cooked, revealing a lighter interior.
Measured before cooking, while the ingredient hasn't yet absorbed water or changed texture.
